Security Assessments
SERVICE ENGINEERING GUIDE
Know what is exposed, why it matters and how to fix it. We combine agreed technical testing with configuration and evidence review, then prioritise findings by business impact and verify the remediation that falls within scope.
What we deliver in practice
Exposure & vulnerability review
Discover agreed assets and assess vulnerabilities using appropriate authenticated or external checks. Validate findings, remove false positives and record affected systems and business context.
Validated findings with severity and asset mapping.
Configuration & identity assessment
Review firewall rules, administrative exposure, privileged access, logging and selected endpoint/server hardening. Compare approved baselines with observed settings and explain the operational tradeoffs of changes.
Configuration deviations and actionable remediation steps.
Application & API testing
Within written authorisation, examine authentication, session handling, access control and input validation. Use agreed safe test cases and escalation rules; avoid uncontrolled exploitation of production systems.
Reproducible evidence and developer-focused findings.
Remediation & retest
Group findings by root cause and implementation owner. Agree correction windows, then retest selected fixes and distinguish closed, partially addressed and accepted residual items.
Prioritised remediation backlog and retest report.
The technology, explained
Vulnerability assessment vs penetration testing
Assessment identifies and validates weaknesses. Penetration testing examines agreed attack scenarios under explicit authorisation. The scope, methods and production safeguards differ.
Severity and business priority
A technical severity score is one input. Exposure, exploitability, business criticality and existing controls determine the practical remediation priority.
Retesting
A focused check that a specific finding has been corrected without unacceptable side effects. It does not automatically reassess the entire environment.
Reference architectures & design practices
Illustrative patterns for project discussions. Final topology, sizing, products and acceptance criteria are developed against your requirements. These are BrightGate concept diagrams, not vendor-certified designs.
Authorised assessment and closure+
On smaller screens, scroll the diagram sideways to see all components.
Testing starts only after the target list, methods and operating window are approved. Findings need reproducible evidence and an owner; closure depends on retest results or an explicitly recorded risk decision.
Design practices to apply
- Use stop conditions and an incident contact.
- Protect collected credentials and assessment evidence.
- Report scope limitations alongside conclusions.
Systems, products & official references
Examples to evaluate during scoping. Selection, supported features, hardware and licences depend on the agreed solution; a product mention does not imply a certification or an included purchase.
Vulnerability and configuration tools
Tool selection follows target types, authentication support and the approved testing scope.

Coverage
Reconcile tested assets and approved exclusions.
Evidence quality
Reproduce representative findings safely with the owner.
Closure
Retest agreed corrections and identify remaining exposure.
